So it is July 2016 and I am thinking about my 50th Birthday next May. What can I do that is both a challenge and is something very special? Something which I can look back on with a sense of achievement?
So with this set of requirements I looked around at what was in my capability.
Skydive and bungee jumping not for me…. SO I Googled and Googled and Googled and then I saw Wainwrights Coast to Coast.. I was intrigued. Then I remembered the Julia Bradbury series of the same name.
What is it then?
This magnificent long distance route starts at the red sandstone sea cliffs of St Bees and passes through the dramatic rugged mountains of the Lake District, the softer landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales and over the heather-clad North York Moors before finishing in the quaint fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. Mmmm now that seems like a good fit. At approximately 200 miles this walk was made famous by the late Alfred Wainwright. The Coast to Coast was originally described by Alfred Wainwright in his 1973 book A Coast to Coast Walk.
So the Coast to Coast it is then.
This Blog/Website is devoted to the planning, the preparation and the diary of my walk, so that hopefully when I finish the walk next year (plan to finish the day before my 50th) it will be at Robin Hoods Bay with a big smile on my face.
